Join us at the Rice County Historical Society on Thursday, September 22 at 7pm for our program, “The Dakota 38 and the American Dream” with Todd Finney.
Finney will share a telling of history from a First Nations perspective on early American history on the plains. Specifically, he will be discussing the Dakota 38, who were hung in Mankato during the US-Dakota War of 1862, and the annual Dakota 38+2 Memorial Ride.
As a descendant of Wahpekute ancestors (the band of Dakota that lived in what is now Rice County), Finney brings a unique perspective on the history of this time period and how it is portrayed.
This program is free and open to the public thanks to a grant from the Minnesota Humanities Center. If you are interested in attending we strongly encourage you to call in advance.
The program will be held at the Rice County Historical Society Museum at 1814 2nd Ave NW., Faribault., MN 55027.
To reserve your seat, please call the RCHS Museum at (507) 332-2121.
