“Valley Grove Preservation Society: History and Highlights”

Posted on: Dec 16 2021 by admin

Thursday, April 28, 2022, at 7pm

Join local historian and author Jeff Sauve as he presents interesting stories from his latest publication: Valley Grove Preservation Society: History and Highlights. The presentation will be on Thursday, April 28, at 7 pm at the Rice County Historical Society museum.

The Valley Grove Lutheran Church congregation, Nerstrand, voted in April 1972 to disband. A locally organized preservation society, which would care for and maintain the site in perpetuity, was soon established.

In the fifty years since their organization, the Valley Grove Preservation Society (VGPS) has maintained the two historic churches located three miles north of Nerstrand, as well as managing the surrounding 50-acre oak savanna restoration. Come listen to Jeff share some of the stories and experiences the VGPS has had over the years as they work to preserve this unique and beautiful Rice County historic site.

The program will begin at 7 pm at the Rice County Historical Society and a book signing will follow the presentation.  The museum is located at 1814 2nd Ave NW, Faribault, MN, 55021.

To learn more about the program and to make a reservation, call the museum at 507-332-2121.

The program is free and open to the public thanks, in part, to a grant from the Minnesota Humanities Center.
