Grand Opening!
Rice County Historical Society
Expansion Grand Opening
Ribbon Cutting and Open House.
The Rice County Historical Society has seen many homes since its inception in 1926. Its first location was in the County Auditor’s office in the old Rice County Courthouse. The County Courthouse burned in 1931.
The Historical Society moved into the Buckingham Memorial Library when the library was built in 1930. The Society was given 2 exhibit rooms on the 3rd floor of the library. These rooms later became the Children’s Library.
It was 1976 before the Historical Society got its own building – a county highway garage building from 1943. The building has undergone renovations since it was acquired by the Historical Society, and the most recent is the expansion at the back of the building. The 3,000 square foot addition consists of a new meeting room with technology to enable presentations, as well as a new collections storage room.
There will be a ribbon cutting event at the Rice County Historical Society on Saturday, Dec.12 from 2 -4 pm! The ribbon cutting is at 2:30pm, and this event is free and open to the public.
Come see our new meeting room, and tour the new collections room!
We invite the public to come share in our celebration of this new space on Saturday, Dec. 12!
