“History of the Bluebirding Recovery Program” with Loren Murphy

Thursday, March 21, 2024 at 5:30pm at the Rice County Historical Society Museum

Please join us in welcoming Loren Murphy (“Murph”) to discuss the history and work of the Bluebird Recovery Program of Minnesota. Dating back to the 1970s, this statewide conservation effort has fledged almost 200,000 bluebirds over the course of 10 years. Murph, a resident of Faribault, has been with the organization since the beginning and is a very dedicated bluebirder in his own right.

The program will cover the history of bluebirding in Rice County as well as information on the process for monitoring the bluebirds (creating trails to place boxes, box construction for nesting, and the data collected to track change from year to year). To give some perspective, in 2022, Rice County fledged 2,297 bluebirds. The most out of any participating county within the Bluebird Recovery Program.

Murph has a wealth of experience to share from his experience driving countless miles checking nesting boxes to helping bluebirds weather all kinds of conditions. If you would like to learn more about this important conservation work, please call RCHS at 507-332-2121 to reserve a spot. This program is free to Members and $5 for non-members.
